प्रारम्भिक जीवन

           Practicising journalism for the last 22 years, Lal Bahadur Airi is now the General Manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation. Appointed to the position through an open competition in 2022, Airi is the youngest person to have reached the high post in the history of the Corporation. As the executive chief of the Corporation, he has embraced a policy to reform the state-owned publication house and make its publications people friendly.  

Prior to his current responsibility as the Corporation GM, Airi has had the experience of working as a reporter, editor and manager in various media. Beginning his career from Dadeldhura district in the far west of the country, Airi worked for institutionalization of journalism in the remote district. He exposure ranged from the station manager of Sudoor Awaj radio to the bureau chief of the central newsroom of Kantipur Television.

A PhD scholar in Federalism and Media under Tribhuvan University, Airi has earned Masters and MPhil degree in Journalism. Involved in academic research alongside active journalism, his research works are available at Nepal Journals Online and reserachgate.

Airi has the experience of leading a number of professional and social service organisations. Once the coordinator of Dadeldhura Peace Committee, he played a vital role in conflict transformation and peace building. He has also worked as the chairman of school management committee.

Airi has participated in national and international conferences and seminars including United Nations General Assembly, global climate conference (COP-29), United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction conference (UNDRR) and presented working papers in them.

Under Airi’s leadership, important tasks have been accomplished including approval and implementation of the O&M for the first time in the history of the Corporation, affiliation of employees with the Social Security Fund and enforcement of minimum wage to journalists. Similarly, the recruitment of new employees and promotion of serving staff has been started after a gap of nine long years. In an instance of constructive journalism, policy debate (Gorkhapatra Discourse) has been initiated on issues of public interest.

The Corporation has restructured organizational setup and embraced citizens Voice first policy. Gorkhapatra Academy has been established as per GM Airi’s concept and proposal, which has started work to enhance the quality of entire journalism sector and augment media literacy.   

२२ वर्षदेखि पत्रकारितामा सक्रिय लालबहादुर ऐरी गोरखापत्र संस्थानका महाप्रबन्धक हुनुहुन्छ । खुला प्रतिस्पर्धाका माध्यमबाट २०७८ सालमा महाप्रबन्धकमा नियुक्त भएका ऐरी संस्थानको इतिहासमा यो जिम्मेवारीमा पुग्ने सबैभन्दा युवावस्थाका व्यक्ति हुनुहुन्छ ।  हाल संस्थान प्रमुखको जिम्मेवारीमा रहेका उहाँले संस्थानका प्रकाशनलाई नागरिकमैत्री तथा राज्यको सञ्चारगृहमा रुपान्तरण गर्ने व्यवस्थापकीय तथा प्रकाशकीय नीति लिनुभएको छ । प्रकाशन सामग्रीमा ‘नागरिक आवाज पहिलो’ को नीतिले संस्थानका प्रकाशनको गुणस्तर सुधारमा टेवा पुगेको छ ।

महाप्रन्बधक ऐरीले यसअघि विभिन्न पत्रिका, रेडियो र टेलिभिजनमा आबद्ध रहेर रिपोर्टिङ, सम्पादन तथा व्यवस्थापनको अनुभव लिनुभएको छ । सुदूरपश्चिमको डडेलधुराबाट पत्रकारिता सुरु गरेका उहाँले राष्ट्रियस्तरका सञ्चार माध्यमको रिपोर्टरदेखि सम्पादन तथा व्यवस्थापकीय जिम्मेवारी पूरा गर्नुभएको छ । रेडियो सुदूरआवाजको स्टेसन म्यानेजर एवम् कान्तिपुर टेलिभिजनको केन्द्रीय समाचार कक्षमा ब्युरो प्रमुखको जिम्मेवारी समाल्नुभएका उहाँको दुर्गममा पत्रकारिताको संस्थागत विकासमा उल्लेख्य योगदान छ ।

त्रिभूवन विश्वविद्यालययबाट संघीयता र मिडियामा विद्यावारिधि (PhD) शोधार्थी ऐरीले पत्रकारितामै स्नातकोत्तर तथा दर्शनाचार्थ (Mphil) गर्नुभएको छ । सक्रिय पत्रकारितासँगै अनुसन्धान तथा प्राध्यापनमा समेत संलग्न ऐरीका प्राज्ञिक अनुसन्धान Nepal Journals Online र Researchgate मा पनि उपलब्ध छन् । महाप्रबन्धक ऐरीले विभिन्न पेसागत तथा सामाजिक संघसंस्थाको नेतृत्वमा रहेर काम गर्नुभएको छ । शान्ति समितिको संयोजक भई द्वन्द्व रुपान्तरण तथा शान्ति स्थापनामा भूमिका निर्वाह गरेका ऐरीले विद्यालय (सामुदायिक) व्यवस्थापन समितिको अध्यक्षको जिम्मेवारीसमेत पूरा गर्नुभएको छ । उहाँले विगतमा दर्जनौँ सामाजिक संस्थाको संस्थापकीय नेतृत्व गर्नुभएको छ ।

ऐरीले संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघीय महासभा (UNGA), विश्व जलवायु सम्मेलन (COP), संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघीय विपद् न्यूनीकरणसम्बन्धी विश्व सम्मेलन (UNDRR) लगायतका अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय तथा राष्ट्रिय सम्मेलनमा सहभागी हुनुका साथै कार्यपत्र प्रस्तुत गर्नुभएको छ । ऐरीको नेतृत्वमा गोरखापत्र संस्थानको आर्थिक सबलीकरण, प्रशासनिक सुधारसँगै समयसापेक्ष रुपान्तरण भइरहेको छ ।

हालै ऐरीको नेतृत्वमा संस्थानमा पहिलो पटक O&M स्वीकृत तथा कार्यान्वयन, कर्मचारीहरुको सामाजिक सुरक्षा कोषमा आबद्धता, पत्रकारहरुको न्यूनतम पारिश्रमिक लागू गर्ने लगायतका महत्त्वपूर्ण कार्य भएका छन् । यसैगरी करिब नौ वर्षपछि संस्थानमा पदपूर्ति तथा बढुवा प्रक्रिया सुरु भएको छ । उहाँको नेतृत्वमा रचनात्मक पत्रकारिताको अभ्यासस्वरुप सार्वजनिक आवश्यकतामाथिको नीतिगत बहस थालनी गरिएको छ ।महाप्रबन्धक ऐरीकै अवधारणा र प्रस्तावमा ‘गोरखापत्र एकेडेमी’ स्थापना गरिएको छ । उक्त एकेडेमीमार्फत समग्र पत्रकारिताको गुणस्तर विकाससँगै मिडिया साक्षरतालगायतका कार्य थालनी भएको छ ।

‘गोरखापत्र डिस्कोर्स’ नामक सार्वजनिक नीति बहसलगायत संगठन संरचनामा परिवर्तन तथा प्रकाशन सामग्रीमा ‘नागरिक आवाज पहिलो’ को नीति संस्थानले लिएको छ ।
