Nepalgunj, May 12

Several of Village Development Committee (VDC) offices in the district are being operated at the buildings taken on rent.

The situation has arisen after the government failed to reconstruct the VDC offices which were destroyed during the time of insurgency.

Those destroyed VDCs offices could not be reconstructed after the government failed to allocate budget in time.

Now, VDC secretaries have been facing difficulties in their daily works after the offices were shifted to rented rooms and houses.

Rajendra K.C, Engineer of Banke district, said the budget was allocated at the last hour and the VDC could not take advantage of the last minute release of the budget, which was later frozen.

In ten year long conflict, 24 VDC offices were completely destroyed. Out of them 10 offices came into operation following minor repair, technical office informed.

However, reconstruction of 14 VDC offices is urgently required, the office said.
